ELFE - E-Learning for Female Entrepreneurs

ELFE - E-Learning for Female Entrepreneurs - is a multi-national project set up with partners across Europe. It is a free, accessible, female-specific learning course supporting women who want to set up a business, offering an online step-by-step guide.

With information on such subjects as creating the right business plan, presenting yourself to potential investors, and securing your business long-term, ELFE also contains many useful and detailed case studies on businesses set up by women.

Course access

Women entrepreneurs can access the course via a website that has a number of modules which entrepreneurs can work through. The website is available across Europe in Belgium, Germany, France and Ireland as well as the UK, where it is supported by MMUBS. The site is available in a number of languages and has been created bespoke to different nationalities to correspond to differing laws in each participating country.

Further support is also available to supplement the course in the form of mentoring, business advice and training workshops.

Low-risk approach

Co-ordinating the project is Bo Zhang, ELFE Project Officer in the Centre for Enterprise at MMUBS. “Women who start their own business are every bit as successful as men,” says Bo, “but often a different, more low-risk approach is needed. Traditionally, women have had a lot less access to help, and we aim to put that right.”

Bo continues: “There has been a lot of work on this project – from ourselves and European partners, and we hope it will enhance the potential of all participants by giving them detailed information, developing their skills, and showing what can be done, whatever obstacles they may have to overcome.”
