Martin has long been fascinated by professional practices, and feels that they should become more modern in their outlook, by learning and developing from other key industries. Martin is very entrepreneurial himself, and understands that proactive advice to clients in ever-changing markets is the key to helping businesses. Martin features regularly in the local and regional business press as a distinguished opinion leader and adviser to local entrepreneurs. Martin qualified with Price Waterhouse and eventually left to work more closely with SMEs and entrepreneur-led businesses. He founded his own practice in 1982 and this business was acquired by Tenon Group plc in May 2001. In turn, Tenon merged with RSM Bentley Jennison in December 2009 to form the UK's seventh largest firm of accountants and business advisers - RSM Tenon.
